Lee Valley Hosts London Games
Date Published: 04/02/2010
Athletes travelled from all over the country to compete at the London Indoor Games on Saturday 30 and Sunday 31 January at the award-winning Lee Valley Athletics Centre.
Following on from last year’s inaugural meeting, which proved such a success in the athletics community, the multi-event competition was extended from one day to two days to cater for the growing demand.
Over 900 male and female athletes entered, some travelling from as far as Holland, Poland, the Channel Islands and Ireland.
Highlights from the meeting included Birchfield Harrier Mark Lewis-Francis running his fastest 60m in five years (6.59) and Birchfield’s Bernice Wilson improving her 60m personal best from 7.37 to 7.31 in the Senior Women’s 60m.
Other achievements included Lawrence Clarke (Windsor Slough Eton & Hounslow) recording 7.79 in the 60m hurdles.
The action wasn’t confided to the track, in the men’s high jump four athletes jumped 2m20 with Enfield & Haringey’s Adam Scarr winning the competition on countback. There was also a very high standard in the women’s pole vault with Cardiff’s Jessica Abraham leading the field of 28 with 4.00m.
