Asda staff in Edmonton Green will be encouraging shoppers to think about their health and fitness with some gentle exercise on Monday 15 June.

Short taster sessions will be available for shoppers to get involved and have some fun as they do their Monday shop. Age Concern Enfield will be providing a warm up session to get the joints moving and Yoga 4 Mums will be giving an introduction to yoga. Fiona O’Leary, Senior Dietitian at NHS Enfield Community Services will be leading a mini shopping tour for customers, giving practical ideas for healthy eating. Staff from the Edmonton Leisure Centre will also be on hand, as well as in store at selected times throughout the week, providing information on membership options.

This event is a part of Sporting Futures, the biggest free sport and physical activity event in North London. Sporting Futures will take place at Lee Valley Athletics Centre, Edmonton on Sunday 21 June where over 40 different activities will be taking place, from athletics to cycling, table tennis to short mat bowls, cup-staking to golf. Anyone of any age and ability can take part and there are free health checks and advice on how to improve health and fitness. For more information visit http://www.sportingfutures.co.uk/

As a Fathers Day gift Asda will be providing a Family Camping starter set for the Sporting Futures Fathers Day draw, and as part of Asda’s Pedal Power campaign a bike will be given away to the person who guesses the nearest number of total miles pedalled on the Sporting Futures event day. Pedal Power is a campaign to encourage more people to take to their bikes by making cycling more accessible and affordable for everyone, whilst raising money for the charity to create over 300 community bike clubs across the UK. In addition, Enfield Leisure Centres Ltd who manages the Edmonton Leisure Centre will provide a free 3 month all-inclusive membership and a selection of Leisure Vouchers for use in any of their leisure facilities in Enfield.

Lesley Worsfold, General Store Manager of Asda Edmonton Green said:

“This is a fantastic event and something that our customers can get involved in. We are all conscious about eating the right food and getting some exercise and I hope these short sessions will show people that just doing a little gentle exercise can help keep you fit while having some fun too.”

“We had a great event last year and I am sure this year’s event will be even better, we are keen to raise the profile of a healthier lifestyle to the local community.”
