Chris Evans heads to Lee Valley Ice Centre for latest 'Sporting Challenge'

Lee Valley Ice Centre played host to the BBC Radio 2 Chris Evans Breakfast Show on Wednesday 3 February as the fearless presenter took on his sports sidekick Jonny Saunders in a game of ice hockey.

Paul Thompson, head coach of Coventry Blaze and the GB ice hockey team, was on hand to put Chris and Jonny through their paces. After a quick practice they were introduced to their team mates, professional players from the Coventry Blaze team.

After a tight and fast paced game Jonny’s team were triumphant, with Jonny himself scoring one of the five goals. A video with all the action can be found here.

Lee Valley Ice Centre was delighted to host Chris and his team, Centre Manager Alan Seabrook said “We are always keen to see the Centre being used in new and exciting ways, while we regularly host ice hockey games this is the first time we’ve seen complete beginners playing alongside professionals; Chris and Jonny did incredibly well.

We welcome all disciplines here at the Lee Valley Ice Centre from public skating to figure skating, ice hockey, ice dance and more recently the exciting new sport, Broomball”.

The Lee Valley Ice Centre is the regional centre of excellence for London and the South East of England. The centre was opened by Olympic ice dance champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean in 1984 and today provides ice skating forall levels and abilities, from beginners to international competitors.
