Nature & wildlife

The Lee Valley supports a wide range of wildlife and is easily accessible, making it the perfect place to get up close to some amazing wildlife spectacles.

Over 200 bird species have been recorded in the Valley, of which 150 can be seen every year, including the rare and elusive Bittern. There are also 35 species of mammal, from the secretive Otter to the charismatic Water Vole, a huge variety of insects including over half the UK’s species of dragonfly and over 500 species of plant. There really is something to be seen whatever time of year you visit.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) update

Updated 7 April 2020

We’re closing our car parks on Bank Holidays and weekends until further notice. Too many people are driving to our park at weekends and not following Government advice to stay local and use open spaces near their homes.
There are fewer issues on weekdays and we know that some people with mobility issues drive to the park to exercise and that, for them, the park is a lifeline, so we have taken the decision to keep car parks open at these times. We will monitor the situation and will extend closures if we need to.
People must remember that the Government’s priority is to save lives, and that the best way to protect yourself and others from illness is to stay at home. Exercise is still important for people’s physical and mental wellbeing, so the Government has said people can leave their homes for one form exercise once a day. This can be, for example a run, walk or cycle – alone or with members of your household. When doing this, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and ensuring you are two metres apart from anyone outside of your household and while in the park you must keep moving.

Keep safe and stay well.
