After the Games

After the London 2012 Games

The London 2012 effect: something for everyone for years to come.

The spirit of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games will continue with Lee Valley Leisure Trust are determined to deliver a legacy from the world’s greatest sporting festival.

The Trust is working closely with other groups to ensure that as many people as possible get to enjoy its London 2012 venues over the coming decades; Lee Valley VeloPark, which will have the iconic Velodrome at its heart and be the finest hub for cycling in the world; Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, both of which are located on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and Lee Valley White Water Centre in Waltham Cross, Hertfordshire.

Lee Valley White Water Centre is an exciting example of the Trust philosophy of running sports venues that are community focused, commercially driven that cater for all abilities.

This world class venue opened in April 2011. In its initial year, it attracted 155,000 visitors generating £2 million in income. The world’s best canoeists, youngsters and white water rafters on a fun day out have all used the venue.

Two fabulous schools festivals have also been staged, with 2,000 young people from every single London Borough, Hertfordshire and Essex getting the chance to white water raft for free.

The Schools Festivals initiative forms a key part of the Trust drive to ensure that as many people as possible benefit from the sporting activities on offer at its London 2012 venues.

The Schools Festival is now an annual event at Lee Valley White Water Centre and will become part of the programme at all the Trust's London 2012 venues. Young people from across the capital and surrounding region will have the chance to try new sports in world class arenas. Designed to inspire and motivate, the Schools Festival will also help unearth the stars of tomorrow.

This “open to all” philosophy will carry through to the activities available at Lee Valley VeloPark and Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, which will offer a range of programmes aimed at diverse community groups, ages and all kinds of athletes, from grassroots to elite.

The London 2012 Games were a once in a lifetime event, providing us with some fantastic memories but Lee Valley Leisure Trust will also ensure that will bring a lifetime of brilliant benefits to visitors and local residents alike.
