Countryside Live Schools Event
25 and 26 September 2019
Managed and hosted by the award winning Lee Valley Regional Park, this unique country fair offers school children from London boroughs, a fantastic day out and a unique opportunity to experience and learn about all aspects of the countryside right in the heart of east London. In addition Lee Valley Regional Park provides a diverse range of environmental and heritage education programmes across the park which have been awarded the Learning Outside the Classroom Quality Badge.
Run in partnership with the national charity Countryside Learning, the event will complement the ‘Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto’ and brings the classroom into the countryside, providing children and teachers with a memorable and first class outdoor learning experience that links with the National Curriculum through a range of subjects.
The Youth and Schools Service are offering a guided activity at the event which allows students to experience first-hand the wildlife and habitats that exist in and around the Leyton Marsh site. The sessions are 35 minutes in duration and are led by experienced staff and volunteers on land surrounding the event site. The activities will be adapted depending on the age or ability of the group.
The children will be supervised to use sweep nets, trays, identification keys and magnifying pots to allow them to capture and study invertebrates living in the park. The activity provides links with science topics in the National Curriculum.
