Lee Valley Ice Dance Open Competition
 
The centre will be closed all day on Monday 15th March 2010 due to the above competition taking place. We will re-open as normal on Tuesday 16th March.

Get your skates on at Lee Valley Ice Centre
The Ice Centre is set in the heart of East London and is the regional centre of excellence for Ice Sports in the south of England. The centre has recently obtained a Highly Commended score in its recent QUEST accreditation – a leisure industry award that recognises best practice.
 
The centre was opened back in January 1984 by Torvill & Dean and hasn’t looked back since. The ice pad is international sized (56m x 26m) and combines a successful past with modern technology to create a magnificent backdrop for up to 1,250 skaters and spectators.
 
The Ice Centre provides an extensive programme of activities including public skating, figure skating, ice-dance, pairs, synchronised skating, ice-hockey and Learn to Skate Courses. The Ice Centre produces a spectacular Ice Show every Christmas with a cast of over 100 skaters performing to audiences of over 5,000, it’s also a major venue for skating events which include Championship Qualifiers and regional competitions. The centre’s also used regularly for television film shoots, the most recent being ITV’s Dancing On Ice.
 
The centre’s easy to visit via both public transport and car, it’s situated in the green surroundings of Walthamstow Marshes which is a Green Flag area and part of Lee Valley Regional Park. Public Skating

Where better to give ice-skating a try than at the Lee Valley Ice Centre. We have public sessions 7 days a week that suit all ages and abilities from toddlers to adults. There is a seating capacity of 750 around the rink and skating for a maximum of 800 per public session.
 
We offer family sessions at the weekends and during the school holidays for all ages where you and your party can skate in a relaxed controlled manner.
 
For the young and young at heart there are evening sessions every weekend in a nightclub atmosphere with all the latest sounds, speed skating and our sophisticated lighting system. For further information on our public session times and prices please download the Session Times & Prices leaflet.

Skate hire

Before you venture out onto the ice you’ll need to hire some skates; unless you have your own. Pick up a pair of skates from our skate hire where we have over 1,900 pairs of skates ranging from UK child size 6 to adult size 13 (EU: 23 - 47).

What to wear

If you’re coming ice skating comfortable warm clothing is essential along with a pair of socks! The ice centre is quite cold, however once you start skating around the rink you’ll soon warm up.
 
Wearing a few layers allows you to take off or add clothing when you need to. A pair of gloves is also advisable, gloves and socks are available to purchase from the skate shop or the Ice Centre Box Office.
 

Learn to Skate Courses

Our current set of classes run up until the Easter Holidays. The next set of regular Skate UK classes commence from the 20th of April.
During the school Easter holiday we will be running a five day course Monday 5th - Friday 9th April 2010 (11.00am - 11.30am) the course costs £52.00 and includes:
  • Half Hour Group Lesson with one of our qualified team of coaches
  • Free Skate Hire
  • Free Entrance onto the Public Skating Session
  • Record of achievement booklet
 
Learn to Skate with our team of fully qualified instructors. A course of group  lessons are a fun way to learn to ice skate and to make new friends, whether you aim to be a champion or simply want to improve your skating.
 
We’ve a range of courses for all ages and abilities from toddlers to adults. For further information and course times please download our Learn to Skate Leaflet or contact the Ice Centre Box Office.
 
The courses are run in six week blocks, with special 5 day crash courses on offer during the school holidays. For the dates of our next Skate UK courses click on link below.
 
 
Please note all our skating courses are non-refundable.
 
To book on one of our classes please download our Learn to Skate Course Enrolment Form and either post it to us, or bring it in person to the Lee Valley Ice Centre prior to your course start date. Places on each of our courses are limited so book early to avoid disappointment.
 
The cost of all our Learn to skate courses includes:
 
  • 30 minutes tuition in a group class from one of our qualified instructors.
  • FREE Skate Hire
  • FREE Entrance on to the public session after the class has finished.
  • FREE Record of achievement booklet for you to record your progress through the 10 levels of the Skate UK program.

We advise wearing warm comfortable clothing for your lessons, a pair of gloves would be useful! No loose clothing should be worn as this could be dangerous.

Children’s Parties

Everyone loves a party and where would be better than on the ice? You’ll have the coolest celebration in a safe and fun environment. For more information download the Birthday Party Leaflet or contact the Ice Centre Box Office.
 

Private Hire

The Ice Centre is available to hire subject to availability for private skating or off ice events. The hospitality area on the mezzanine floor can accommodate 85 people and offers a spectacular view overlooking the ice pad. The hospitality area is regularly used by outside bodies for small conferences and meetings and is available for hire. For further information email icecentre@leevalleypark.org.uk
 

Ice House Café

Once you’ve skated why not sit back and relax with a nice snack or a hot drink. The Ice House Café with seating capacity for 50 is open during all public sessions and serves a variety of hot and cold snacks, meals and drinks. Vending machines are also situated around the venue for your convenience.
 

Skate Shop

There is an on site skate shop selling top brand name skates and other skating equipment, from companies with a proven track record for producing top quality products, with excellent after sales support.
 
Customers can order any special items on request which will be available for collection in days. Whether it's a large or small purchase or just advice you can be assured of a friendly welcome and the keenest prices at all times. The skate shop is open during certain public and training ice sessions.

Tuesdays: 16:30 – 19:30
Fridays: 16:30 – 19:00
Saturday: 09:00 – 12:00
Sunday: 09:00 – 12:00 & 14:00 – 16:00

Skate Sharpening

We offer skate regrinding to both hockey and figure skates as well as a blade alignment and fitting service all provided by our in house Skate Grinder David Jacob. Lee Valley Lions

If you’ve achieved Skate UK Level 4 on the Learn to Skate Courses and are interested in this fast and furious sport in a safe environment - why not join the Lee Valley Lions!
 
The junior jockey club has separate teams for different age brackets these are: Under 10’s, 12’s, 14’s, 16’s and 18’s as well as these league teams there is a beginner’s hockey programme run by the club on Tuesday, Friday and Sunday evenings. Figure Club

New members are always welcome at the award-winning Lee Valley London Skating Club. Lee Valley London Skating Club was re-established in 2006, and was previously known as Valley Skating Club which was formed in 1983. The club offers many opportunities for ice dance, single free skating, pairs skating and synchronised skating. Our synchronized skating teams compete at national and international competitions.

Accessibility

Lee Valley Ice Centre makes every effort to ensure that visitors with disabilities can gain easy access in and around the centre. If any visitors require assistance our staff are on hand to help. The site is fully accessible for wheelchair and pushchair users. A Hearing assistance loop is installed at the box office. The site has both disabled and mother & baby parking bays situated close to the centre front doors.
 
Automatically opening doors to the centre along with push button operated doors, an access ramp and lowered counter sections in the Ice House Café make the centre easily accessible, there’s also disabled access to the ice surface. Train
The nearest main line train station is Clapton which is approximately 20 minutes walk from the Ice Centre.
 
Underground
The nearest London Underground stations are Walthamstow Central on the Victoria Line or Leyton on the Central Line.
 
Bus
Bus routes 48, 55, N55 and 56 all stop on the Lea Bridge Road, outside the Ice Centre on both sides of the road.
